Displaying a dark ruby core, the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to a nose of sage, roasted red pepper, red cherry skin and dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the mouthfeel is ripe, tart and somewhat angular. The more I spin the glass and slurp the wine, the herbaceous character rows in amplitude. The wine concludes with a just-ripe finish and persistent tannic edge with lingering green notes. Enjoy it with food. ... More details

The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon has a strong, smoky, bell-pepper-tinged nose that oddly comes across more like a Cabernet Franc. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, smooth and harmonious, though it would benefit from a touch more grip on the finish. Otherwise, this is perfectly fine.
Winery
Deep garnet red with attractive aromas of elderberries and red currant leaf. The broad midpalate is cupped by silky tannins and intricate layers of plums, graphite and pomegranate and it finishes with a gentle, yet lingering array of mulberry coulis and light cocoa dust. Best served at 16-18 ?C.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

Since their conception in 18th century France, Cabernet Sauvignon grapes have flourished across the Old and New Worlds and have changed the way we think about red wine forever. Their sharp and astringent nature has a wonderful ability to mellow and round with age, and when helped by being blended with Merlot and Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc varietals – as is done in Bordeaux and elsewhere – the results can be truly remarkable. What is most special about Cabernet Sauvignon grapes is the fact that they have a true affinity for oak, and when aged in barrels made of this fragrant wood, the wine which comes out of them a few years later holds an amazing array of flavors and aromas, making Cabernet Sauvignon based wines some of the most memorable in the world. Single variety bottles from the New World made from this grape are also increasing in popularity, as the strong flavors and full-bodied nature of these wines is a great match for many global cuisines.

Region: Coastal Region

The coastal region of South Africa is a wonderful place for viticulture. With gorgeously long, hot summer days, tempered by brisk oceanic winds, the grapevines can grow healthily, the fruit can ripen fully, and beautiful wines of great character and flavor can be made. For several hundred years now, the coastal region of South Africa has proven itself to be a highly important wine region, capable of supporting many grape varietals, suitable for still, fortified and sparkling wines. Today, the most popular grapes by far are Chenin Blanc, which produces the most recognizable wines of South Africa. However, also popular are many of the Bordeaux varieties of red and white grape, along with relative newcomers, such as Pinotage, which grow exceptionally well in the coastal terroir.

Country: South Africa

As geographically diverse country, with everything from lush green valleys to areas of arid desert, mountainsides and river estuaries, South Africa unsurprisingly produces a huge range of excellent wines. Regions such as the Breede River Valley consistently impress with their Semillon wines and the lush, fruity Ruby Cabernets grown and processed here, and the cooler region of Overberg is attracting much attention as a result of their silky Pinot Noir bottles. However, all over the oceanic tip of this fascinating country, traditional methods dating back over three hundred years are combining with modern technologies to produce some of the finest examples of New World wines to be found anywhere on the globe.
