Wonderfully fresh and exotic, the 2022 Viognier wafts up sweetly floral and slightly tropical with an air of crushed stone that adds lovely balance. This is soft and soothing to the senses, with crisp orchard fruits and juicy acidity framed by a tinge of saline minerality. This finishes completely fresh and perfumed with mint and kiwi notes.

The Viognier is sourced from two distinct sites both in the Yakima Valley AVA: Red Willow vineyard on the far western edge of the AVA and Olsen vineyard on the far eastern edge, close to Red Mountain. The cooler climate and exceptional site at Red Willow produces wines that offer fantastic floral notes and citrus flavors. The warmer climate and great south facing slopes at Olsen produce wines with ripe melon and tropical fruit characteristics.

The green-skinned Viognier grape varietal has been around for centuries in France, with many people claiming that they were brought to the Rhone region from Croatia by ancient Romans who were impressed by its flavors and aromas. Today, they are grown in several different countries, although many wineries find them a difficult varietal to work with as they are highly susceptible to disease, and struggle in fluctuating climatic conditions. However, when the grapes are harvested at the right time, the wines they produce are of an exceptional quality. Their floral aromas are their main selling point, as these give an impression of sweetness over an otherwise dry and fruit-forward wine, and their crispness and low acidity makes them an ideal match for many international cuisines.
