A fabulous white wine from Malartic’s 17.5 acres of white grapes, this blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon hit 13.5% natural alcohol. It offers plenty of fresh fig, honeysuckle and orange blossom notes in a dense, concentrated, rich style. The wine’s beautiful acidity and fragrance confirm that this was one of the finest white wines produced in Bordeaux in 2013. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

This wine is concentrated, dense and has superb acidity and fresh white fruits. Crisp apples, pears and spice from the wood aging are all there. Made with 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sémillon, this is a wine for the long haul, so, if you can, wait until 2020 before drinking. Bonnet family owners are in the mix; Michel Rolland consults.

High aromatics, good quality, clean and crisp, this wine is reflective of a vintage that was successful for white wines, if tough for the reds. It has precision, and shows an estate growing in confidence. This was the first vintage that Michel Rolland consulted for whites as well as reds. We opened a second bottle, as the first had a touch of oxidation.

The 2013 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sémillon, shrugs off an acceptable bit of reduction on the nose to reveal an attractive bouquet: lanolin, lemon peel, candlewax and honeysuckle. The palate is fresh and crisp, more malic than the 2014 on the entry, with decent weight even if it attenuates slightly towards the finish. I appreciate the vigor and persistent, stem ginger-tinged finish and it will continue to give pleasure for several years. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Malartic-Lagravière.

Pure, with chamomile and melon rind notes framing a core of lemon curd, white peach and mirabelle plum flavors. The long, stony finish ripples on and on. Fresh and delightful, with the balance to age. Drink now through 2017. 916 cases made.

The beautifully crafted and carefully blended white wines of the Bordeaux region of France have gone down in history as being amongst the finest in the world. The secret to the success of these wonderfully flavorful, complex and elegant wines is in the selection of particularly high quality grape varietals, with French law dictating that only nine varietals of white grapes can be grown in the region and used in the production of blended white Bordeaux wine. The most common grape varietals used in the blend are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varietals, which each add their own flavors and aromas to the wine, balancing out each other and rounding the wine. The other six varietals are seen less and less nowadays, but are still used by certain heritage wineries and are expected to make a comeback.
