100% Gamay. The beginning of the Desvignes range is "La Voûte Saint Vincent". The wine is named for the vault or "voûte" of the old family house and for the patron saint of winemakers, St. Vincent. It is a blend of various estate parcels totally 4.5 hectares in the climat of Douby, which lies in the northeast corner of Morgon along the border of Fleurie. The La Voûte vines average 45 years in age and are planted in Douby's typical sandy, decomposed-granite soils. Viticulture and vinification are consistent across all Desvignes wines. The vines are certified-organic and harvested by hand. The bunches--50% destemmed, 50% whole-cluster--go through a semi-carbonic maceration in open-top concrete vats, with a submerged-cap maceration of about 10 days. A very small amount of sulfur (1-2 grams/hectoliter) is added after malo and sometimes at bottling. The wine is aged in concrete for 7-9 months and bottled with a light, non-sterile filtration.

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
