The 2021 Brut Nature Valdobbiadene Sui Lieviti is intense, wafting up with a burst of sea spray, chlorophyll and crushed rocks evolving to show crushed green apple and rosemary. It washes across the palate with a laser-like focus, nearly salty in character with a cascade of tart orchard fruits and sour melon, all neatly balanced by brisk acidity. This finishes savory and long, leaving the cheeks puckered as hints of raw almond and bitter lemon rind linger on and on. (20/04/2022 /L2232.04.5) ... More details

Winery
Sui lees is the name of the reference in the bottle, also called "sur lie", the first version with bubbles born in these hills. The yeasts that give its name to the type are those that fall to the bottom of the bottle, where reference takes place, according to the ancient method of sparkling wine making that is much sought after by consumers today. It comes in the Brut nature version and is a fresh, cloudy sparkling wine with very fine bubbles. There are broader and more complex olfactory sensations, supported by the classic hint of bread crust given by the yeasts.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

The sparkling wines of Champagne have been revered by wine drinkers for hundreds of years, and even today they maintain their reputation for excellence of flavor and character, and are consistently associated with quality, decadence, and a cause for celebration. Their unique characteristics are partly due to the careful blending of a small number of selected grape varietals, most commonly Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. These grapes, blended in fairly equal quantities, give the wines of Champagne their wonderful flavors and aromas, with the Pinot Noir offering length and backbone, and the Chardonnay varietal giving its acidity and dry, biscuity nature. It isn't unusual to sometimes see Champagne labeled as 'blanc de blanc', meaning it is made using only Chardonnay varietal grapes, or 'blanc de noir', which is made solely with Pinot Noir.

Region: Veneto

Veneto has, for hundreds of years, been one of Italy's most important wine regions, and many of the finest wineries and appellations near the Adriatic coast have reached levels of international fame and recognition unmatched by other parts of the country. Amarone, Valpolicella and Bardolino DOC regions are all widely understood to be amongst the best places in the world for flavorful, complex and interesting red wines, and the white Soave wines produced on the foothills of the Alps are enjoyed across the globe for their clarity and crispness. The region benefits from a range of micro-climates, protected from the harsh central European winters by the mountain range, and the generations of expertise and dedication to quality and innovation shown by the hundreds of wineries in the region.

Country: Italy

It isn't difficult to understand why Italy is famed not just for the quality of its wines, but also for the vast variety and range of characteristics found in the wines there. The terrain of the country varies wildly, from the lush rolling green hills and valley of Tuscany, to the sun drenched rocky coasts of Sicily, the mountainous and alpine regions of the north, and the marshy lowlands of the east. Italy really does have a little bit of everything. Combine this huge range of landscapes with an almost perfect climate for grape cultivation, and you have a country seemingly designed for viticultural excellence. The results speak for themselves, and it is clear to see that wine has become an inseparable part of Italian culture as a result of its abundance and brilliance. Each village, city and region has a local wine perfectly matched with the cuisine of the area, and not an evening passes without the vast majority of Italian families raising a glass of locally sourced wine with pride and pleasure.
