Bursting from the glass with aromas of vine blossom, orange zest, crisp white peach and honeycomb, the 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, with a seamless, elegantly fleshy profile and lively balancing acids. Lovely intensity, drive, citrus zestiness and energy here. Concentrated and very elegant wine, with a great future ahead. Fine minerality to finish.

Rated 93 by Burghound
A discreet dollop of wood sets off the ever-so-mildly exotic aromas of white and yellow peach, passion fruit and subtle mineral reduction wisps. There is a positively gorgeous texture to the highly refined middleweight flavors that culminate in lightly stony, focused and sneaky long finish. This could use a bit more depth though overall, it is a classic Vaudésir of lace and grace that should generously reward a decade or so of cellaring.

Rated 92 by Vinous Media
90-92 The 2020 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru, cropped at 35hl/ha, feels a bit simple on the nose following on from the impressive Bougros and never really gets going. The palate is well balanced, quite leesy and powerful, and smooth in texture, but it needs to muster more complexity on the finish. Fine, but outclassed by its fellow Grand Crus in this vintage.
Winery
Fresh, refined aromas of flowers and fruit. On the palate, it is distinguished by particular subtlety: a delicious blend of softness and liveliness. Round and airy, it is very charming from its first youth.

Varietal: Chardonnay

There are few white wine grape varietals as famous or widely appreciated as the Chardonnay, and with good reason. This highly flexible and adaptable grape quickly became a favorite of wineries due to its fairly neutral character. This neutrality allows the wineries to really show off what they are capable of doing, by allowing features of their terroir or aging process to come forward in the bottle. As well as this, most high quality wineries which produce Chardonnay wines take great efforts to induce what is known as malolactic fermentation, which is the conversion of tart malic acids in the grapes to creamy, buttery lactic acids associated with fine Chardonnay. Whilst the popularity of Chardonnay wines has fluctuated quite a considerable amount over the past few decades, it seems the grape varietal allows enough experimentation and versatility for it always to make a successful comeback.

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
