Very impressive lime with mangoes, as well as white and yellow peach aromas. This has a superb palate with smooth flesh and sleek acidity. Nectarines to close. Really exotic, attractive fresh fruits and a long, fresh palate. A great and smooth-textured Chablis! Drink or hold.

89-91 The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Montmains, which comes from ten parcels, has a clean and precise bouquet with scents of limestone, Granny Smith apples and a touch of oyster shell coming through with time. The palate is well balanced with a malic, Granny Smith apple-driven opening, a keen thread of acidity and a twist of bitter lemon on the finish. This has good potential.

89-91 An intensely floral and notably more elegant array displays aromas of mineral reduction, sea breeze and a hint of zest. There is better vibrancy and precision to the more mineral-driven medium weight flavors that culminate in a markedly dry, clean and focused finale. Lovely and fashioned in an understated style.

Pale yellow with a green tinge. Delicate, spicy scents of ginger and quinine complicated by minerality. Supple on entry, then spicy and alive in the middle palate, with citrus and white peach flavors accented by a peppery quality. Shows lovely energy and mineral tension and finishes with very good length. Winemaker Didier Séguier notes that the estate's vines in the Butteaux portion of the greater Montmains slope is the source of this wine's freshness.

In the past couple of decades, the sales of wines made with Chardonnay grapes has risen and fallen more than once. For many people, this green skinned grape was marred by a poor reputation for bland and uninteresting wines, a great shame considering the fact that Chardonnay grapes have proven time and time again to be interesting, versatile and full of surprises. Most commonly, fine Chardonnay wines are buttery, smooth and creamy as a result of malolactic fermentation, yet with hints of tropical fruits and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. What is most remarkable about Chardonnay grapes, however, is the fact that unlike many other 'white' grapes, they are exceptionally good at holding the characteristics of their terroir in the bottle. As such, despite their fluctuating reputation, this is one grape varietal which produces constantly surprising, impressive and varied wines.
