Italian White Blend

Italian white blend wines exemplify the country's rich winemaking heritage, offering a diverse range of styles and flavors. What makes these blends unique is the meticulous interplay of indigenous grape varieties, each contributing distinctive characteristics to the final composition. Grapes like Trebbiano, Garganega, Vermentino, and Malvasia often feature in these blends, creating a harmonious fusion of floral, citrus, and tropical fruit notes. The versatility of Italian white blends is underscored by their regional diversity, from the crisp and mineral-driven whites of Friuli-Venezia Giulia to the fuller-bodied expressions of Sicily. These wines frequently exhibit a balance between acidity and texture, making them suitable for various occasions and culinary pairings. Italian white blends reflect a commitment to tradition while embracing innovation, offering a delightful exploration for wine enthusiasts. Whether enjoyed as a refreshing aperitif or paired with Mediterranean cuisine, these wines showcase Italy's vinous mosaic, inviting enthusiasts to savor the unique tapestry of flavors crafted from the country's indigenous white grape varieties.

Country

Italy

There are few countries in the world with a viticultural history as long or as illustrious as that claimed by Italy. Grapes were first being grown and cultivated on Italian soil several thousand years ago by the Greeks and the Pheonicians, who named Italy 'Oenotria' – the land of wines – so impressed were they with the climate and the suitability of the soil for wine production. Of course, it was the rise of the Roman Empire which had the most lasting influence on wine production in Italy, and their influence can still be felt today, as much of the riches of the empire came about through their enthusiasm for producing wines and exporting it to neighbouring countries. Since those times, a vast amount of Italian land has remained primarily for vine cultivation, and thousands of wineries can be found throughout the entire length and breadth of this beautiful country, drenched in Mediterranean sunshine and benefiting from the excellent fertile soils found there. Italy remains very much a 'land of wines', and one could not imagine this country, its landscape and culture, without it.

Region

Trentino/Alto Adige

As the name suggests, the northern Italian wine region of Trentino-Alto Adige is made up of two separate areas, with Trento in the south, and the Adige river in the north. There are few parts of Italy quite as alluring for wine fans as Trentino-Alto Adige, as this is an area in which Italian wines become really quite unique and surprising. As the region is nestled in the foothills of the Italian Alps, it is quite a long way from the sun drenched islands of the south, or the rolling hillsides of central Italy. Indeed, the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige are packed full of fresh, vibrant alpine flavors and aromas, and are as influenced by the Germanic styles of wine making as they are influenced by those of the Italians, making the wines of this region really quite unusual, and utterly captivating. Wineries in Trentino-Alto Adige use both native and imported grape varietals for their wines, and they are generally considered to be amongst the finest in Italy.

Wine Enthusiast

When you look at the mountains around Terlano, this wine starts to make sense. It's got that same kind of imposing presence. Alpine herbs and ripe yellow fruits collide with this intense mineral core, like someone bottled a mountain stream running over sun-warmed rocks. The blend comes together so seamlessly you forget you're drinking separate varieties. There's power here, but it never feels heavy. Drink Now - 2045. (Cellar Selection)

Decanter

A joyous sotto voce nose of spring meadow flowers sprinkled over the unbridled purity of ripe pineapple, Meyer lemon and green apple fruit. Saline elements infuse the structure and acidity and proceed towards the lengthy finish. (Platinum) - DWWA 2025

Vinous Media

The 2022 Terlaner Cuvee Riserva Nova Domus opens with a minty freshness as nuances of split pine mix with chamomile, freshly sliced apples and pears. It is elegant in feel, with nearly oily textures supported by fresh acidity and a pure blend of white pit fruits, citrus and spice. The Nova Domus tapers off supremely balanced and youthfully poised, leaving a subtle spike of ginger that pinches at the cheeks.

WS 92pts

Wine Spectator

There’s a lovely, mouthwatering vibrancy to this graceful white, which offers a focused display of ripe and tangy Granny Smith apple, dried apricot, chopped almond and spun honey flavors. Fragrant on the racy finish, with hints of white blossoms, ground ginger, white pepper and fleur de sel. Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2037. 2,835 cases made, 300 cases imported.

Winery Notes

This cuvée has a multifaceted structure with a hint of herbs and spices, including aniseed, mint and sage, as well as nuances of fruit aromas, especially apricot, mandarin, honeydew melon, maracuja and passion fruit, all underpinned with salty mineral components. On the palate, Nova Domus is complex and delicate, offering a creamy softness in an interesting symbiosis with an aromatic minerality, and has the texture for a very long finish.
