Aromas of blackcurrant, walnut and dark tobacco follow through to a medium body with well-integrated tannins to pull the whole thing together. Flavorful and complex finish. 60% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 15% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot and malbec. A year or two will make it so much better, but I like it now. Try after 2024.

There are few regions in the world with stricter regulations in regards to wine production and grape varietals than those found in Bordeaux, France. Whilst there are six 'official' Bordeaux grapes, the two key varietals for almost every fine Bordeaux wine are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and with good reason. Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are renowned for their acidity and astringency, strong fruit and spice flavors and full body, Merlot grapes are notably rounded, soft, fleshy and lighter on tannin. The combination of these two varietals, along with a small percentage of (commonly) Petit Verdot or Cabernet Franc, is the perfect balancing act â€“ the two grape varietals cancel out each others weaker points, and accentuate all that is good about the other.

The 2019 Fonbadet is such a charmer. Soft and forward, with silky contours, Fonbadet is an absolute delight. Blood orange, crushed flowers and spice lift a core of bright red berry fruit. This open-knit, supple Pauillac is so expressive and inviting, even in the early going. The 2019 is a fine effort.

Heady and seductive on the nose with faint floral reflections. There is a good juicy quality to this, immediately quite mouthwatering and succulent with fine tannins and a smooth silky texture. Lots of energy and drive here, bright and confident with pulsing acidity and a firm overall structure presenting all the elements well. Lovely Pauillac typicity on show.

Blackcurrants, smoked tobacco, chocolate, and some cedary, spicy, lead pencil notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Fonbadet, a medium to full-bodied, rich, mouth-filling Pauillac with plenty of tannins, a balanced, layered mouthfeel, good concentration, and outstanding length. It will evolve for 20+ years if stored properly.

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, the 2019 Fonbadet is deep garnet-purple colored. It needs a little coaxing to reveal pristine creme de cassis, blackberries pie, and kirsch with suggestions of Indian spices and damp soil. Medium-bodied, elegant, soft, and refreshing, the palate delivers fantastic purity of fruit with a spicy lift on the finish.
