Sauvignon Blanc rules here, at 86% of the blend, with 14% Semillon. There is a sense of confidence on the nose, all finely tuned citrus fruits, fresh lemon and orange zest, swirled with crushed gravel and a twist of mint, which swamps any of the less appealing raw phenolic elements seen in some other wines. A rather correct and reserved style follows on the palate, with a polished texture and modest acidity, which manages to carry the midpalate, helped by a rich phenolic grip. Nicely integrated, with plenty of bitter energy and drive at the end, this shows fairly well, and is a good result in this vintage. Of course, from Larrivet-Haut-Brion, we should expect nothing less. Tasted twice.
