The 2021 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens opens in the glass with aromas of plums, orange zest, peonies and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate with good depth at the core, sweet tannins and a long, saline finish.

Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. Burghound

An airy, cool and beautifully pure nose is comprised by notes of red pinot fruit, anise and a range of floral elements, especially rose petal. There is excellent punch to the tautly muscular and more mineral-driven flavors that conclude in a dusty, moderately austere and mildly lean finish that, in contrast to the Clos de Vergers, isn't drying or short. Note that my rating offers the benefit of the doubt that this will be harmonize as the tannins begin to resolve.

Winery Notes

A wine with an energetic character, it is full-colored ruby and dark purple. Virile, with concentrated cherry and raspberry flavours, then changing with time to pepper, liquorice and eucalyptus, lovely soft tannins. A delciously silky, dense wine that marries well with game meat and strong soft cheeses.
