The blackberry, black-truffle and wet-earth aromas are impressive for the vintage. Medium-to full-bodied, tight and focused with lovely tannin tension and freshness. Pretty acidity at the end. Tasted just before bottling. Drink after 2022. ... More details

91-94 The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru Cuvée Heritiers Latour was the least advanced of Latour's reds, unwinding in the glass with a reserved bouquet of cherries, cassis, grilled meats, spices and wood smoke. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered, with nice concentration and depth at the core, juicy acids and fine but abundant structuring tannins.

Rated 94 by Wine Spectator
Broad-shouldered and spicy, featuring core flavors of cherry, currant and tobacco that are graced by a leafy, vegetal notes and dense tannins. Youthful and fresh, this is balanced in an oversized way, showing fine potential. Best from 2024 through 2039. 75 cases imported.

Rated 92 by Burghound
90-92 A spicy, pure, cool and restrained nose blends layered aromas of herbal tea, dark currant, violet, lavender, earth and game, all of which is trimmed in moderate wood. The racy and intense mineral-inflected flavors are not especially dense though there is both fine length and better balance on the firmly structured finale. I suspect that this will put on weight as it ages and note well that it's going to require at least moderate patience.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

Region: Burgundy

The region of Burgundy has become synonymous with high quality red wines, but in actual fact the region consistently produces a wide variety of fine wines of many different styles, rigorously protected by French wine laws designed to keep reputations and quality at a very high level. The region benefits greatly from a warm and sunny summer climate, which, coupled with the excellent quality soils which typify the region, and centuries of experience and expertise, has led to the region being known all over the world for the excellence of its produce. The majority of grapevines grown here are of the Pinot Noir varietal, which has helped Burgundy become known as the definitive region for elegant and smooth red wines, but Chardonnay grapes and many others are also grown in abundance and used to make both still and sparkling wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
